【FAQ】Why are APs Unable Accessing WLC?

Dec 04, 2019

AP accessing to WLC should go through following steps:

1. AP discovers WLC by DHCP option 43

2. AP is allocated IP address from the WLC built-in DHCP server or the external DHCP server

3. AP establishes connection to WLC by CAPWAP tunnel

4. AP downloads three configuration templates from WLC over CAPWAP tunnel 5. AP runs according the parameters in configuration templates

Failure in any of above processes will result in that AP can’t access to WLC. It also needs to confirm below information:

1. WLC does not support the TAP model. Old generation of WLC can’t manage new TAPs.

2. WLC software version is too old to support new TAP.

3. TAP is unable to communicate with WLC.

4. WLC license expires or excesses TAP numbers limitation.
